Bridge Repairs at Barcombe Mills this Autumn (2019)
The Environment Agency has advised the Society that bridge repairs at Barcombe Mills are scheduled to start in October 2019…
“Following a routine structural inspection by the Environment Agency (EA), significant defects were identified on Barcombe Fish Pass Bridge. To ensure the bridge remains safe for users, a number of essential repairs are required. Unfortunately vehicle access to the Barcombe Mills Access Road will need to be closed whilst repairs to the bridge are completed. As there will be no access to the bridge, footpath routes will also be affected, ESCC Rights of Way Diversion Signs for the Ouse Valley Way will be displayed on site. Please note that pedestrian/fishing access to the majority of Barcombe Mills will remain unaffected. The site compound will be located in the Barcombe Parish Council car park located to the south of Barcombe Mills.
To complete repairs on the underside of the bridge, water levels will need to be temporarily lowered on the fish pass channel. During this time, any fish located in this section of channel will be carefully re-located downstream and active environmental monitoring will be on-going throughout the duration of the repair. The current estimated start date is scheduled for 14th October 2019 and the repair duration is likely to be approx. 4 – 6 weeks (this date and the duration maybe subject to change as suitable water level and weather conditions are required).
Apologies for any inconvenience caused, and thank you for your cooperation whilst these essential works are conducted.”
