BROWN'S FARM, BARCOMBE MILLS
The fishing secured at Brown's Farm in 2008 will be available again during the coming 2009-2010 season, for annual and winter permit holders only .
The location and extent of the fishing is shown by the dotted line on the map below.
|
The fishing at Brown's Farm, opposite and south of the stretch OAPS controls on the east bank of the river below the Anchor sluice gates, has, until now, only been available to purchasers of day tickets at the farm. The farm's owners will continue to sell their day tickets, and have kindly agreed to allow OAPS annual and winter permit holders access to their fishing as well. |
The fishing
The west bank of the river below the Anchor weir (opposite the Society's existing fishing), as far as the point where the river splits, plus the bank on the island created by the split in the river to the point where it rejoins - there is NO fishing allowed in the old mill race by the house.
- ALL of the Society's rules apply to permit holders' use of this new fishing.
- NB. Please be aware that the farmer keeps the land here primarily as hay meadows - keep to public footpaths and river banks, DO NOT cross the fields directly to your chosen swim until the hay has been cut and collected – and if in doubt, assume that cutting has NOT taken place.
Access & parking
There is parking at Brown's Farm, accessible via the access road that runs from Barcombe Mills (the same access road that crosses the Bevern Stream).
At Barcombe Mills, leave the main road near the road bridge as if you are going to the Society's car park. Go past the car park, bear left (where right would take you towards the Mill Pool), then right - you should find a gate in front of you after a few yards. Go through the gate and follow the access road to the farm, where you should park off the right hand side of the access road, next to the river (see map). DO NOT park ON the access road .
As with all of our car parks, parking stickers MUST be displayed here at all times .
Car parking is no longer available at the Anchor Inn (see our homepage and/or news page) although there is limited parking in a lay-by back along the Anchor Lane, west of the disused railway. Parking is also available at the usual places in Barcombe Mills. If you decide to park at the Mills, follow the Ouse Valley footpath along the river past the reservoir and over the footbridge to access this new fishing at its southern end.
